For two consecutive editions of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), UPscaleXR hosted the Art Directions XR programme at the Katoenhuis. Across 35 headsets, we presented six technically diverse XR works, each with its own specific hardware, software and audience management requirements. In addition to day-to-day hosting, we provided full technical support during the previews, ensuring every work was rigorously tested and performance-ready before opening to the public.

Rise of the Rainbow is an immersive XR theatre experience by DROPSTUFF MEDIA, Theater van de Heelheid and the Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld & Geluid, guiding audiences through landmark moments from LGBTQIA+ history through life-sized sets, augmented reality, spatial audio and live performance.
UPscaleXR delivered the complete technical infrastructure and on-site support for this large-scale production, managing the simultaneous operation of 70 headsets at peak performance. Through meticulous preparation and real-time technical assistance, every show ran seamlessly for both audiences and the creative team — preserving the integrity of the live experience while significantly expanding its reach and scale.

Into the Great Wide Open, Vlieland | August 2025
Music & Arts Festival | 30 headsets | Multiple days
At the end of August, UPscaleXR travelled to Vlieland for Into the Great Wide Open, hosting Revival Roadshow by Nullshima Studio's Anne Fehres and Luke Conroy on 30 simultaneous headsets. Our first audience set the tone: 22 local children aged 8 to 11, many experiencing VR for the very first time. Hesitation quickly gave way to enthusiasm, with many returning for multiple viewings. Over the course of the festival, the installation ran at full capacity across all sessions and drew audiences of all ages.

Gent Festival van Vlaanderen | October 2025
Immersive VR Performance | 100 headsets | Single evening
Ascension, by Paul Boereboom and Leon Rogissart, was an intimate VR live Opera presented at the Palmarium in Ghent as part of YOU ARE HERE – but not really. The work immerses visitors in a slow, physical ritual of arias, imagery and disorientation, somewhere between thought and feeling, presence and absence.
UPscaleXR provided the technical infrastructure and hosting to run the experience on 100 simultaneous headsets during the Gent Festival van Vlaanderen. In close collaboration with DROPSTUFF MEDIA, we ensured seamless synchronisation between visuals, sound and live performance, enabling an exceptionally large audience to share the same intense experience within a single evening.

Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam | AR, VR, XR & video game | 9 works | Multiple weeks
UPscaleXR provided the full technical preparation, installation and on-site support for Realitiesⁿ, the inaugural immersive media programme of the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) at the Nieuwe Instituut. We hosted nine immersive works across a wide range of formats, trained the volunteer team to independently guide visitors through the experiences, and provided continuous technical support and audience assistance throughout the entire run of the exhibition.

Fantastisch Film Festival Amsterdam | 7 XR works | Multiple days
For Imagine Film Festival, UPscaleXR hosted seven technically diverse XR works spanning 360° VR films, multiplayer applications and complex PC VR setups. Together with the festival's volunteer team, we placed a strong emphasis on story-driven onboarding, ensuring that every visitor was thoughtfully guided into each experience before it began. The broad range of formats and technical configurations demanded a flexible and highly organised approach, with our team adapting swiftly to the specific requirements of each individual work.
